MONUMENTAL

Konstrukt, a label based out of Amsterdam, describes itself as “maneuvering below sea level.” As the fledging group releases its fifth record in just over a year, their motto has more or less held water. The label’s tracks move through murky subterranean depths, rarely rising up to take a breath — instead relying on percussive momentum to drive themselves forward.

Konstrukt 005 sticks to the same formula, and the EP’s first tracks from Svreca & Retina. It quickly dive to a psychedelic breaking point. Avenza and Aquatermae barely have any recognisable percussion within, and swirling white noise and thick atonal chords layered on top of an insistent low-end push and pull at the listener. Nuel, of Voices From The Lake fame, ups the tempo on the EP’s B-side and brings his trademark melodic atmospherics. Uniforms accelerates to drum n’ bass tempos, a frenzied ending to a solid effort from the Konstrukt crew.

L’olandese Konstrukt si sta facendo largo tra i grandi creando una sua chiara e forte identità rintracciabile nelle sue recenti release di SHLTR, Cassegrain & Sendai, Artefakt & Evigt Mörker e Doka.

Il nuovo capitolo, il quinto in uscita il prossimo 31 marzo, della serie e Konstrukt 005 vede protagonisti Retina.it, Svreca e Nuel, tre portavoce di una techno “mediterranea” che sta tenendo sempre più testa al sound teutonico.

Il primo lato del 12″ vede l’unione delle forze di Svreca con il duo Retina.it: Svreca già noto per il suo approccio senza compromessi alla techno qui fonde le sue atmosfere oscure e nebbiose al sound magmatico e piroclastico dei due partenopei dando vita a due tracce ipnotiche e mozzafiato Avenza e Aquatermae che sembrano sparare particelle subatomiche sull’ipotetico asse Napoli/Madrid.

Nella seconda parte dell’EP la palla passa a Nuel con le atmosfere a tratti space di Luna per chiudere poi con suo tipico sound “meditativo e rilassante” di Uniforms.

Off the back of EPs from Artefakt, Doka, SHLTR and Cassegrain, Konstrukt teams Svreca with Retina.it, and Nuel too for the Konstrukt 005 EP. The Retina ragazzi get jiggy with Señor Semantica on a brace of hypno-bangers, “Avenza” and “Aquatermae,” Nuel fuelling the vehicle with a more elusive and diverse couplet. Some context for text? ‘The gravitational pull of the moon lets the water flow gracefully. Way off past awareness, in and out of reach like a half remembered dream.’ Do ya?

Spanish-Italian connection on the Dutch imprint Konstrukt where Svreca’s and Retina.it’s collabs offer simple, ethereal functionality with machine whispers. On the other side, Nuel’s “Luna” is a more granular affair touched by trance textures and fast lane ambient “Uniforms” plays with tempo changes.
