Lino Monaco and Nicola Buono met in the early 1990s. The duo, originally from the Vesuvian area near Old Pompeii, were fascinated by the world of electronic synthesis from the very beginning, leading them to follow the technological evolution needed to forge their own sonic identity.
In 1993, they founded "QUIET MEN," a techno/trance project that saw them appear with a track on the "Disturbance/Minus Habens" compilation. In 2020, they released four unreleased tracks from that period on the English label "Space Lab."
During a performance, they met DJ Rino Cerrone (1995) and decided to found the new project "QMEN," where they focused on purely techno sounds. The project released three EPs.
Lino and Nicola's interest in sound research later led them to abandon techno sounds to focus on the study of new sonic solutions.
From the ashes of Qmen, the "Retina.it" project was born (2000).
The music of the Pompeii duo immediately captivated Chicago's Hefty Records, which released their first EP (ImmediateAction #04) in 2000. The following year, Hefty released their debut LP, "Volcano.Waves 1-8," eight tracks encompassing experimentation, spatial landscapes, and rhythmic pulses, a legacy of a shared techno background that they never denied. That same year, three more EPs were released: "Nulla," "Manifesto," and "Strutture."

Over the years, their work has been licensed by national and international labels: Raster, Hefty Records, Mousikelab, Storung, Semantica, Glacial Movement, Spazio Disponibile, Bunker Ny, Nonplus, Midgar, She Lost Kontrol, Eklero, and many others.
Furthermore, their performing activity sees them involved in festivals such as: Sonar Festival (ES), Communikey Festival (USA), AAVEC Festival (FI), Up The Date (PL), Dissonanze (IT), Orbit (PRT), Unibeat Basement Edition (IT), Boom Festival (PRT), Neapolis (IT), Raster Campfire (DE), Batofar Cherchie l'Italie (FR), Freqs Of Nature (DE) and many other participations in clubs, theaters and centers of Italian and European art, alongside international artists such as: Kraftwerk, Plaid, Alva Noto, Pole, Apparat, Diamond Version, Matmos, Telefon tel aviv, Ikue Mori and Zeena Parkins, Kangding Ray, Aoki Takamasa, Mika Vainio, Byetone, AtomTm, Frank Bretschneider, Donato Dozzy, Peter Van Hosen and many others.
Alongside the Retina.it project, they launched the new project "RESINA" with Marco Messina and founded their own label "Mousikelab," through which they released the album "Opinio Omnium."
With John Hughes, they launched a new project called "BROOD" and recorded several tracks at the "Hefty" studio in Chicago, which would later form the EP "BroodXIII - HeftyRecords."
They collaborated with the electronic music class at the "D. Cimarosa" Conservatory of Avellino, manipulating and recontextualizing the two classical works "Chamin De Fer" by Pierre Schaeffer and several Madrigals by Carlo Gesualdo. The work was presented at the "Flussi 2009" and "Sentieri Barocchi" festivals in 2010.
They work on soundtracks for installations and short films, such as the music for the Fall/Winter 2018 fashion show for Pal Zileri, "Hosois," an installation by Adelaide di Nunzio, "Abat Jour" by Michel Simoncelli, "Janvier," a short film directed by PierPaolo Patti, and "Archeologia & Sinestesia" for the Archaeological Park of Pompeii.
In 2013, the duo founded a side project called "The Ne-21," with which they explore dark wave sounds with clear echoes of early new wave and post-punk from the 1980s. They released a 7-inch EP with Domestica Records in 2013 and the album "In The Realm of Electricity," produced in 2021 by the She Lost Kontrol label.
Together with Prg/m and Ruhig, they founded the new project "R2π" and released the EP "Library of Babel" (produced by Midgar Records), the EP "Largo Nilo" (Camera Magmatica), the EP "Isomorphis" (Unità Psicofisica), the split EP "La Fabrica" ??(Ascetic Records), and the split EP with Mike Parker, "Embodiment of the Will" (Sub Osc Records).
They have participated in various EPs as remixers for Wata Iganashi, Raiju Manah, Enko, Matter, and Error Etica.
They collaborated with Donato Dozzy on the project "OFFICINE DI EFESTO," releasing their first EP in 2015 for Semantica Records and a second, "Elements," for Spazio Disponibile.
With Dozzy, they launched another project, "MEN WITH SECRETS," featuring a vintage minimal wave sound. They released their album "Psycho Romance and Spookly Ballads," published by The Bunker NY in 2020, and a second album "Sand Clock" by MinimalWave.
They currently collaborate with the "Istituto per la Diffusione delle Scienze Naturali" on audiovisual installation projects on naturalistic, historical, and archaeological themes.

Lino Monaco e Nicola Buono si conoscono nella prima metà degli anni '90. Dalle ceneri dei Qmen prende vita, così, il progetto “Retina.it” (2000)
La musica del duo di Pompei incanta da subito la Hefty Records di Chicago, che decide di pubblicare nel 2000 il loro primo EP (ImmediateAction#04). L’anno successivo la Hefty publica LP d'esordio "Volcano.Waves 1-8"; otto brani tra sperimentazione, paesaggi spaziali e pulsioni ritmiche, retaggio di un comune background techno mai rinnegato. Nello stesso anno vengono pubblicati altri tre Ep “Nulla”, “Manifesto”, “Strutture”.

Parallelamente al progetto Retina.it, danno vita al nuovo progetto “RESINA” con Marco Messina e fondano la loro label “Mousikelab”, con cui pubblicano l’album “Opinio Omnium”.
Con John Hughes fondano un nuovo progetto denominato “BROOD” e registrano diversi brani nello studio “Hefty” di Chicago che andranno a comporre l’EP “BroodXIII - HeftyRecords”.
Collaborano con la classe di musica elettronica del Conservatorio “D.Cimarosa” di Avellino nella manipolazione e ricontestualizzazione delle due opere classiche "Chamin De Fer" di Pierre Schaeffer e alcuni Madrigali di Carlo Gesualdo. Il lavoro viene presentato in occasione dei festival "Flussi 2009" e "Sentieri Barocchi" nel 2010.
Lavorano per sonorizzazioni di istallazioni e short film, come le musiche per il dèfilè autunno/inverno 2018 per Pal Zileri, “Hosois” istallazione di Adelaide di Nunzio, “Abat Jour” di Michel Simoncelli, “Janvier” short-film con la regia di PierPaolo Patti, “Archeologia & Sinestesia” per il Parco Archeologico di Pompei.
